Before you pack

  • — Ténéré 700 and WR250R are tube-type on spoked wheels: a rear tube plus levers is non-negotiable.
  • — WR250R parts are scarce outside its original markets — carry more model-specific spares than you would on a CRF.
  • — The OEM kit is thin: budget on replacing everything except the axle wrench.

  • Reversible screwdriver — JIS/Phillips + flat

    Carb bowls, clamps, bodywork and inspection covers. On Japanese bikes the cross-head screws are JIS, not Phillips — a Phillips driver cams out and rounds them off.

  • Spoke wrench

    One loose spoke turns into a buckled wheel over a few hundred kilometres of piste. Check and re-tension on the road.
